У меня такая же проблема. Я подумал, что это несложная проблема, так как я установил rocketchat именно так. Версия 2.7.0, linux mint. Правильно работает в firefox.
Интересно. Убран вариант оснастки. Установлен новейший debi с основного сайта rocketchat (v2.10.5). Теперь снова имею доступ к микрофону и камере.
Такая же проблема. оснастка сборки.

Если бы та же проблема, установленная через Ubuntu Snap, смогла ее решить. Настройте Jitsi, без предупреждения о запросе разрешений на доступ к микрофону или камере (Chrome 68). Однако Firefox запросил разрешения.
Исправление: мне пришлось следовать инструкциям https://rocket.chat/docs/installation/manual-installation/ubuntu/snaps/autossl/, чтобы включить автоматический SSL с привязками. Как только я это сделал, Jitsi работал в Chrome и правильно запрашивал разрешения.

В MacOS Catalina я не могу предоставить доступ к видео только для приложения RocketChat. Однако в системных настройках я смог активировать микрофон для приложения RocketChat (предоставив доступ к RocketChat в разделе Безопасность — Конфиденциальность — Микрофон).

You all would have read our article on Privacy concerns using Zoom for your official meetings and to a certain extent how to secure it by following the best practices to secure your zoom meetings. My company MD asked to find a solution which could be of our own deployed, scalable and no privacy concerns. Recently when trying setup the jitsi meeting, one of our colleague could join the meeting but with his microphone throwing an error with permission as below:

This fix is for Google Chrome. For other browsers, you can use this as a pointer.
Solution:
Step 1: Click on the Padlock icon and open the site settings
or
Click on the camera icon on the right side of the address bar and click manage.
Step 2: Change Camera and Microphone to Allow
Now go back to the meeting page and refresh the page.

The web version shows popup error obtaining microphone permission and error obtaining camera permission, but it doesn’t even ask for permission. When I click on the i button next to address bar, the microphone and camera doesn’t have option to allow for the site. Does it have to do with the https because currently I use http?

Yes. Browsers don’t support WebRTC on «untrusted» origins. Anything (except localhost) using HTTP is considered untrusted.
I’m trying to use Jitsi but can’t seem to get my self-hosted version to work, I’m not sure I fully understand how to set up for Apache servers, but now I’m trying to use the one on meet.jit.si and it keeps giving me the error Error obtaining microphone and camera permission I’m using the API on localhost, what could be the problem here?
@damencho I’m currently on localhost, so it’s http, could that be the problem?
It is a problem, webrtc works only under https.
@damencho o wow, I thought there’s an exception for localhost? Sorry if this seems like a bother but what can I do from here, if I want to develop and test locally?
Just run make dev in the jitsi-meet checkout location.
@damencho thanks so far, I tried that and it worked but the problem now is, when I try initializing it with the JitsiMeetExternalAPI When it loads the iFrame I get the error The connection was reset, have you ever faced such a problem before?
Nope, but I haven’t actually used webpack-dev-server and iframe API.
